Transloading

Transfer freight between modes — ocean container to over-the-road truck, intermodal to LTL, full to less-than-full — without losing chain of custody or the carrier dispatch window.

What transloading covers

Mode change without integrity loss.

1

Ocean to OTR

Ocean container devanned, freight re-loaded to over-the-road dry van or reefer. Same-shift turn keeps demurrage at zero.

2

Intermodal to LTL

Intermodal load broken into LTL skids. Each skid labeled, BOL'd, and dispatched to the destination carrier.

3

Full to less-than-full

Full TL inbound re-split into multiple regional outbounds. Reduced linehaul cost without losing the inbound discount.

How a transload runs

Four steps from inbound mode to outbound mode.

  1. 01

    Pre-arrival

Inbound ETA + outbound carrier dispatch scheduled. Labels and BOLs prepped 48 hours ahead so the dock turn is clean.

  2. 02

    Inbound break

Inbound seal photographed and broken. Freight offloaded, counted, and reconciled against the packing list at the dock.

  3. 03

    Re-build for outbound mode

Freight re-palletized, re-labeled, re-marked for outbound mode. Damaged freight segregated and documented.

  4. 04

    Outbound dispatch

Outbound trailer loaded, BOL signed, seal applied, carrier dispatched. POD captured at delivery and pushed back.

the volume that FedEx wanted to compete for and win with their base rates, they're not seeing the business because you've tacked on a 15% margin. That elephant needs to be discussed in the room and it has to be overcome.

Why importers move transload to us

Two-coast dock capacity, one service agreement.

1

Port-adjacent + East Coast.

Ontario, CA is 12 minutes from LA/Long Beach. Reidsville, NC sits inside FTZ Zone #230. Both coasts on one contract.

2

Live-unload windows hit.

Driver doesn't sit. Demurrage and detention stay at zero across both buildings.

3

Outbound pre-dispatched.

Outbound carriers scheduled 48 hours ahead of inbound arrival. Cross-mode turn is hours, not days.

4

Chain of custody documented.

Seal-to-seal photo evidence. Counts reconciled at every transfer. Claims aren't an uphill fight three weeks later.
